Course Description

This course addresses the importance of understanding and managing latex exposure, particularly for employees in industries where latex is commonly used, such as healthcare and laboratories. Participants will gain insights into the origins of latex, the types of synthetic rubbers often referred to as latex, and the potential risks associated with increased exposure. The course emphasizes the various reactions individuals may experience, ranging from skin irritation to more severe allergic responses, and provides practical measures to mitigate and prevent these reactions.

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify the sources of latex exposure in the workplace, including the different types of synthetic rubbers commonly referred to as latex, and recognize the heightened risks associated with prolonged exposure.
2. Understand the range of reactions individuals may experience due to latex exposure, from mild irritations like skin rashes to more severe symptoms like difficulty breathing, and be able to differentiate between irritant reactions and true allergies.
3. Implement proactive measures to manage and reduce latex exposure in the workplace, including proper glove usage, awareness of latex in airborne forms, and the importance of seeking medical evaluation for any signs of reactions to ensure ongoing workplace safety.
