Excavator Safety: Incident Prevention

Course Description

This course focuses on proactive incident prevention through thorough workplace task assessment and a deep understanding of the excavator and job requirements. Participants will learn to evaluate key factors, such as excavation depth, soil conditions, and the placement and backfilling of soil, before commencing any task. The course emphasizes the importance of collaboration with supervisors and co-workers to understand excavator limitations, stability, and the specific requirements associated with various attachments.

Learning Objectives:

1. Demonstrate the ability to assess workplace tasks, including evaluating excavation depth, soil conditions, and proper soil placement and backfilling, to prevent incidents and ensure safe excavator operation.
2. Understand and implement precautions for common tasks like trenching, including maintaining a safe distance from excavation edges, proper equipment positioning, and the use of barricades to prevent falls.
3. Develop knowledge of excavator stability factors, including changes during task execution and the radius of the boom and stick in relation to lift capacity, to ensure safe operations and minimize risks.
