Course Description

This course provides comprehensive guidance on safety practices associated with the dumping process when operating dump trucks. Participants will learn critical safety considerations before, during, and after the dumping process, emphasizing the importance of choosing a level surface, avoiding unstable conditions, and being aware of potential hazards. The course covers key practices for maintaining stability, utilizing spotters, and conducting post-dumping safety checks to ensure the well-being of the operator and those on the job site.

1. Participants will acquire the skills needed to assess and ensure a safe dumping environment, including evaluating surface stability, identifying potential hazards like power lines, and confirming material conditions before raising the truck bed.
2. Learners will understand and apply safe dumping practices, such as staying in the cab with seatbelts on during the process, using spotters strategically, and raising the bed slowly to prevent rearward load shifts that may lead to damage or tipping incidents.
3. Participants will learn post-dumping safety measures, including locking the tailgate, performing a walkaround to check blind spots, and ensuring no remaining materials pose a risk before leaving the job site.
